Retired football star and elusive gay icon Ian Roberts will head to Darwin next week to feature at the Northern Territory Gay and Lesbian Pride week. During his visit Roberts will spend time at the Northern Territory Institute of Sport as well as schools in Darwin to talk to students about acceptance and understanding. The celebrations, which begin on 7 October, will begin with a rally at Raintree Park followed by a march through Darwin streets. Events include a dance party called Welcome to Pride Sunday Sundowner, a screening of short films on gay and lesbian issues, art exhibitions and a public forum featuring a panel which includes Roberts, indigenous representative Chrystal Johnson, Darwin businessman Tim Palmer and RAAF active reserves member Diane Fieldhouse. The week-long celebrations will finish with a Pride Pool Party on 13 October and the AIDS Council Pride Party.
