Ian on Diet

"I try to eat six times a day...but to be honest three of those meals I really hate! The stuff I'm not mad on is a mixture of oats and bran. I mix it up in a bowl and it tastes really awful! I have it with skim milk powder or just plain water and I'll just throw it down. I have two of those bowls three times a day.

"When I first started playing league I weighed 89 kilos. I have been up as high as 108. But I just can't stay that heavy (i wish I could). My usual weight now is about 103k, 104k. And eating oats every day helps me keep the weight on.

"My daily routine has me getting up around 6am. I drive my mum to work then I have some oats. I also might have a protein shake. That's five egg whites (no yokes), three scoops of skim milk powder, maybe some protein powder, water...and shake it all up and drink it. Then it's back to bed!

"Then I get up at about 8.30am. I try and get at least seven hours sleep every night. But if I can sleep 12 I will! Half the time I just can't get out of bed. That's when I'll have my breakfast. This usually means 10 Weet-bix with milk and maybe some juice. Maybe some toast too.

"Then it's off to training. But I always find that an hour after training I'm hungry again. Maybe then I'll have a couple of sandwiches. At aboul two o'clock I like to go to my favourite Italian restaurants in Sydney (No Names or Bill & Tony's) and have a bowl of pasta. I might have another snack before training at 5pm. After training about 8pm I'll usually go and have another bowl of pasta. Then I might go home and have dinner with the family or else back to my unit and my girifriend might have cooked something. Sometimes I'll have both!

"I don't have a regular three meal day...l just eat every couple of hours.

"If I go to a restaurant I feel I can eat whatever I want to. But I'm always conscious of what I'm eating. When I do eat out I always try to order pasta or rice.

"There's not much I wouldn't eat. I avoid fatty foods and I'd always cut the fat off meat. I don't eat any fried foods or things in batter and I try and stay away from french fries. Sugar I also try to avoid.

"I drink alcohol occassionally but I have never smoked. In my opinion it's a filthy habit...but I've got nothing against people who do!"
