Spunk Aaron Jeffrey has snared the lead role in the film of openly
gay footballer Ian Roberts' life story. Last week he met the
inspiration for the film, rugby league hero Ian Roberts.
The physical likeness between the 192cm-tall Jeffrey and the 190cm-tall
Roberts is evident. The actor with the superhero features is a near
perfect body double for the former international forward, long regarded
as having one of the best bodies in league. But if you ask Jeffiey about
his physique, it's not perfect enough. "I'm going to start working
out with Ian immediately," Jeffrey was reported saying, admitting
he had some work to do.
Roberts will also make his acting debut in the film, entitled Self,
in the role of a rival league player. The film covers the three
decades of Roberts' life from childhood through to rugby league professional.
When writer/director Dean O'Flaherty talks about the project, he draws
a Rocky, rags-to-riches, pain-to-pride picture of the film. Self
is set to go into production early next year.
