	 SYDNEY, Australia (Reuter) - The following is a chronology  
of mass killings by a lone gunman over the past decade. 
	 April, 1996 - A man shot dead nine members of a wedding  
party, including his estranged wife, in Vernon, British 
Columbia, Canada. 
	 March, 1996 -- A gunman burst into a primary school in the  
small Scottish town of Dunblane and shot dead 16 children and 
their teacher before killing himself. 
	 September, 1995 -- A 16-year-old youth ran amok with a rifle  
in the southern French town of Cuers, killing 16 people and then 
himself after an argument with his parents over where he should 
live. 
	 June, 1995 -- A 24-year-old army shooting instructor killed  
seven people, including five women, in the central Swedish town 
of Falun. After a dispute with a woman in a restaurant, he went 
home to his barracks, put on his uniform, took a gun and shot at 
a group of young women on the street. 
	 December, 1993 -- A gunman walked down the aisle of a packed  
rush-hour commuter train outside New York City and randomly shot 
at passengers, killing four people and wounding 17. 
	 July, 1993 -- A man carrying two semi-automatic weapons, a  
handgun and a bag with hundreds of bullets walked into a major 
law firm in San Francisco and opened fire, killing nine people. 
He then shot himself. 
	 October, 1992 - A man killed six people on an hour-long  
rampage through a sleepy holiday area near Sydney, Australia, 
after the breakdown of his relationship with one of the victims. 
He was jailed for life. 
	 October, 1991 -- A man armed with an automatic weapon  
slammed his truck into a popular cafeteria in the Texas town of 
Killeen and opened fire on the lunch-time crowd, killing 23 
people. He then killed himself in a toilet. 
	 November, 1990 -- A gun-mad loner killed 11 men, women and  
children in a 24-hour rampage in the tiny New Zealand seaside 
village of Aramoana. He was killed by police. 
	 August, 1990 - An unemployed man killed five people with a  
shotgun in Sydney, Australia, after one of his neighbors called 
him a layabout. 
	 December, 1989 - A 25-year-old war movie fan with a grudge  
against women shot dead 14 young women at the University of 
Montreal, then killed himself.  ``You're all a bunch of 
feminists,'' he yelled as he opened fire. 
	 July, 1989 - A crazed French farmer shot and killed 14  
people including members of his family in the village of Luxiol, 
close to the Swiss border. He was wounded and captured by 
police. 
	 August, 1987 - A failed army officer cadet killed seven  
people in Melbourne, Australia, after a barmaid rebuffed his 
advances. He was jailed for life. 
	 August, 1987 - A 27-year-old gun fanatic rampaged through  
the streets of the English village of Hungerford, killing 16 
people and wounding 11 before shooting himself. 
	 April, 1987 - A 59-year-old retired librarian killed six  
people, including two policemen, in a shopping mall in Palm Bay, 
Fla. because a boy had walked on his lawn. 
	 December, 1986 - A Vietnam war veteran killed 30 people in  
six hours in three different places in Bogota. He was shot by 
police after killing his mother, several women in an apartment 
building and diners in a restaurant. 
	 August, 1986 - A part-time postal worker threatened with  
dismissal killed 14 people and wounded six in a locked post 
office in Edmond, Oklahoma, before killing himself. 
	 October, 1985 - A disturbed 25-year-old woman in combat  
fatigues killed three people and wounded seven at a shopping 
mall near the U.S. city of Philadelphia. 
	 August, 1966 - In what became the archetype of a random  
shooting, student Charles Whitman shot dead 14 people from a 
27-story clock tower at the University of Texas at Austin before 
being killed by a police marksman. The previous night he had 
killed his wife and mother.
