Title problems

I’ve just been doing some maintenance on the blog (hello Disqus comments!) as I sat here with my decaf espresso and pondered the current irony of my blog title.

The fatty liver issue has meant that I need to restrict my intake of caffeinated coffee (green tea is OK). So, while I have still “just had coffee”, it’s now the decaf stuff. Nice, fair-trade, organic decaf, but decaf nevertheless.

I'm confused. Last time I looked your blog was called “The gum you like is back in style”!! or do you have multiple blogs???

Was it your doctor who said you should avoid caffeine? I see nothing in any medical literature that says that this is the case. If anything you should be avoiding alcohol.

Well, I do, but this one is called “He's Just Had Coffee” and the tagline is “that gum you like is back in style”.

The nutritionist my doctor referred me to is also a naturopath, so along with the usual commonsense advice about eating less and exercising more, there's a few naturopathic tidbits like: only three cups of caffeinated coffee a week, a glass of water with lemon juice every morning and a handful of naturopathic pills (with things like milk thistle in them).

Alcohol is restricted to no more than three glasses of wine a week – but the aim here is mostly fat loss and getting my insulin response back under control.

Might be completely bogus, but I'll take all the help I can get Smile

Milk thistle is great for the liver, but I would suggest, if they are wanting to get your insulin response under control, cut the carbs. Stick to proteins and vegetables, cheeses etc. I had to get my insulin under control and the success I had that way, cutting out the naughty white things (sugar, pasta, rice, potatoes etc.) was amazing.

Thanks Elena. That's exactly the approach. Vegies, protein and only one serve of wholegrains a day. Ah, plus some mysterious supplement called “Insulex”.
